Note to our delegates:

If you want to stay at our convention hotel, the Old Mill Inn, you must reserve your room directly with the hotel not later than February 28, 2010 to be assured of accommodation at the special AVSC rate. Don't delay.

Rooms may also be hard to obtain after that date as any unreserved rooms in our block will be made available to others wishing to stay at the hotel.

Also, if your Convention registration is postmarked on or before February 28, 2010, you will pay a lower registration fee. Registrations will still be accepted until April 30, 2010.

It's that time again when we make our plans to attend the annual AVSC Convention and Show. All AVSC members are welcome to attend. Advance registration is necessary. African violet enthusiasts who are not yet members of AVSC but who are interested in attending are urged to join AVSC (See the "Join AVSC" page.) and then register for your first Convention with your fellow violet lovers.

In addition, members of the public are invited to visit our show on the Centre Square of Sherway Gardens, 25 The West Mall, Toronto, Ontario. The show is open to visitors on Saturday May 1 and Sunday, May 2, 2010, 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. See our Coming Events page for the details as the show draws nearer.

All the information you need is here. Just click on the links above to obtain the item or read through the paragraphs below if you need a little explanation first. You will need Adobe Reader to view our Convention documents. If you do not have it, please click here to download Adobe Reader.

Invitation from our Host

Every AVSC Convention and Show is hosted by one of our local affiliates across Canada. This year it is the Lakeshore African Violet Society of Toronto who will be entertaining us and doing the "work". Please read the Invitation by their Convention Chair, Doris Brownlie to learn more.

Schedule of Events

Convention activities cover several days. You should read this document in order to be sure of which activities you want to participate in and when they are scheduled.

Show Schedule

Every African violet show has a schedule and rules which are the "law" of the show. It explains to our exhibitors which plants they can plan on showing and in which classes. It also covers special exhibits, commercial exhibits, and design with African violets. Read this to learn more about the show that you will see and perhaps even enter plants in if you attend.

Call for Judges

This one concerns members who are AVSA Judges and who plan to attend the Convention. The Judges Chair is looking for you to help judge the show. Please read this and contact him if you are interested. Members who are not judges are welcome to apply to be judges' clerks.

Registration Form

Now we get down to business. Everyone who attends this Convention must register. Here is the form for doing so. There is an "early bird" registration rate for those who mail their registrations by February 28, 2010. Sorry, on-line registration is not available.

Hotel Reservation Form

Naturally, most of us will want to stay at the famous Old Mill Inn and Spa where the Convention accommodations, meetings, dinners and other functions will be located. Please use this convenient form to make your arrangements with the hotel or contact them at the phone numbers provided. A special AVSC rate applies to reservations received by February 28, 2010. Members who regularly attend our Conventions, please note the date which is a bit earlier than usual.

AVSA Judging School

For those Convention delegates who qualify and wish to become AVSA Judges or who wish to renew their credentials, there will be an AVSA Judging School held at the Convention. If you are interested, please read the AVSA Judging School file and submit your application to the Convention Treasurer. The Judging School chair person will contact you with further details.

Article from Chatter

Members of AVSC were able to read this article about the coming Convention in their AVSC magazine, Chatter -- where they will be staying, the flower show, and other things they can do while in Toronto. Non-members may also be interested in reading it.
