African Violet Blossom Types

    Shape:

There are two shapes of blossom: pansy and star. This is a pansy-shaped blossom with five petals, three larger petals below and two smaller above.

Single, Semidouble & Double Blossoms:

Another typical pansy-shaped blossom again with a total of five petals, three larger petals below and two smaller ones above.

Another typical star-shaped blossom with a total of five equally sized petals.

Blossoms range from single to semidouble to fully double. This is a classic single blossom with 5 petals

 

Coloured Edges

A classic single blue blossom. This one is a modern non-dropping hybrid blossom sometimes called a sticktite blossom.

A fully double blossom has 10 petals or more.

Another fully double blossom with 10 or more petals. This one has a ruffled edge.

Some violets have blossoms of one colour with the blossom edges in a contrasting colour. This flower is blue-purple with a white edge.

Sometimes the edge is darker or brighter colour. This light pink blossom has a ruffled edge in a shade of red.

Raspberry Crisp

A classic pansy-shaped blossom with coloured, fringed edge.

Cinnamon Girl

A semi-double star blossom with wavy, white edge.

His Promise

A fully double white blossom with yellow overlay. One of the few violets to show yellow in the bloom.

Ness' Minnesota Splash

A double pink blossom with frilled edges and some white petal tips.

Cherry Kisses

Dark cherry star-shaped blossom.

Rita Hilton

Semi-double raspberry frilled bloom with darker edge.

The Alps

Single to semi-double white pansy-shaped blossom with light blue centre stripe. A chimera.

B-Man's Etna

Single, medium pink ruffled pansy-shaped blossom, purple fantasy markings. This is possibly a chimera sport of the original plant. Canadian hybrid.
